Here are some of the specific areas where I can help you:

• Data Conversion: I specialize in transforming data from one system or structure to another. I can parse nearly anything into nearly anything else, quickly and accurately. I have particular expertise working with text files, including HTML, XML, CSV and more.
• Data Extraction (“Scraping”): I’ve developed my own custom tools and techniques to allow me to extract data from web sites and other information sources. (Note that I only perform ethical data extraction, meaning that which is done for legitimate ends or with the permission of the data source. I don’t assist spammers or those trying to plagiarize content.)
• Custom Scripting: I have helped dozens of clients with custom scripts to help them accomplish a variety of data manipulation goals. I use a simple language for most of my scripts, which is easy to understand and widely portable.
• Excel Formulas and Programming: The year 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of my first professional-level work using spreadsheets. I am a master at formulas, which are faster and more reliable than macros, and I can often solve problems with them that others consider impossible. I wrote my first BASIC program in 1980, and can do some pretty nifty work with VBA as well.
• Copyediting and Proofreading: Elegant, articulate English is essential for a book, article or web site to make a professional impression. I have written and edited thousands of pages of material, and can help you look your best.
• Photo Editing: I’ve been a digital photographer for over a decade, have the latest version of Photoshop, and a great deal of experience in its use. I also have special software for high quality background removal for product photos (sometimes called “deep etching”).
• Voice Acting and Audio Editing: Yes, I do this too! :) I have a neutral American accent, and have in the past done projects ranging from a two-minute video voiceover to over 20 hours of material. I also edit and improve audio recordings.
• Technical Writing: I don’t do a great deal of freelance technical writing, because I expend most of my writing energy on my own projects (such as the Online Freelancing Guide!) However, I do occasionally write for others if the project is interesting and the compensation competitive.
