Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. I don't want to go to a pay-only model like some sites, but when more and more people block ads, I end up working for free. And I have a family to support, just like you. :)

Please think about the value you get from this free site, and consider adding it to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on freelancingguide.net". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@||freelancingguide.net^$document". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely, Charles Kozierok

Online Freelancing Styles and Trade-offs

Decisions, decisions… as a freelancer there are so many decisions to make! In an earlier section of this introductory chapter, we explored perhaps the biggest decision of all: whether to become a freelancer or not. And in the section before this one, we examined different options for pursuing a freelancing career. But yes, there are still more alternatives to consider as you think about making online freelancing a part of your life.

Most of the issues that I cover in this section are really trade-offs: there are no options that are always superior, just ones with differing benefits and drawbacks. I’ll discuss the contrast between high quality and low price projects, which isn’t quite as easy a choice as it seems to some freelancers. I’ll also talk about the duration of projects, and how both short and long assignments have strengths and weaknesses. I examine the matter of work area focus; this again involves another trade-off, as both generalists and specialists have a place in the freelancing world. Finally, I describe market niches and discuss how they can be helpful to ensuring success in a competitive field.
